This year The Stones River Amateur Radio Club held their field day activity
at Veterans Memorial Park in Lavergne, TN. We had a total of 24 operators
and 17 visitors. The weekend was a great success and we had a very nice
time. We had a carry in dinner Saturday and breakfast on Sunday morning. I
would especially like to thank KG4JSR Virginia &KD4F Ingrid for
coordination those activities and all of you that brought side dishes and
deserts. N4EIO was our chef, cooking burgers and hot dogs. The surprise of
the evening was to have entertainment provided by WB4OFM Jim and Donna
Harper "pickin' and grinnin' for us through the early part of the evening.
It was apparent that all there were having a good time and enjoying the
music as well as the camaraderie.
Now for the operation information for the event:
As I stated earlier, we had a total of 24 operators at the park. We operated
class 2A. There were many bonus points that were made including:
100% Emergency power 200
Media Publicity 100
Set-up in a public place 100
NTS message to ARRL SEC/SM 100
Formal NTS mssgs handled 100
Natural Power QSO'S 100
Site visit by elected official 100
Site visit by served agency offcl 100
Youth Participation 20
Gota Bonus 600
Log submitted on web 50
Non Traditional Modes 200
Total 1,770
Our total operating points with multipliers came to 5,698.
Total points for the contest were 7,468.
We may be able to add another 100 points to that, but this is where we are
today.
There were some things we could have done that would have given us even more
bonus point without even having to operate a radio. I have made notes of
those things and we will make them happen next year.
Let me put in perspective what our standing would have been in 2005 with
this current point total.
We would have placed 98th in all classes nationwide with this score.
In class 2A we would have placed 28th overall nationwide.
In class 2A in our division we would have placed 3rd.
In class 2A in our section we would have placed 2nd.
I think that you can see that this score as it now stands is very
respectable. It would not have happened without the efforts of everyone that
came and participated. What made it even more special was that is was fun,
for many it was exciting and for the governmental officials is was an
education with an acknowledged buy in to the work that we do for the
community and beyond.
I want to give all my personal thanks. We Will soon have pictures on our
website from field day. You can also see a small selection on the soapbox
page of ARRL at
www.ARRL.org/contests/soapbox.
Thank you again for all you do. I am very proud to call you my friends and
colleagues.
